Elsdorf is divided into the old town center and the village expansion. Two streets that lead together form the townscape on the village square. Gilsonstrasse used to be called Dorfstrasse.
The old town center
The oldest building in Elsdorf is a half-timbered house from 1789. It belongs to the noble estate "Bergerhof". At that time Elsdorf was a hamlet with some farms. In the 19th century, the large fields were divided among the heirs. This is how the elongated garden plots came into being. The farmers' cottages that used to stand here were torn down over time. They were replaced by 1 1/2 storey brick buildings. These were plastered or clinkered in the 20th century. Only a few of them are still preserved. The buildings had only about 60 m², which were divided on two levels. These small houses usually had five rooms and a kitchen, but no bathroom. A bathroom was added later. Next to the cattle stall was an outhouse. Larger buildings emerged at the beginning of the 20th century. These also had bathrooms. The village square of Elsdorf is almost triangular. It is located at the lowest point in Elsdorf. An extinguishing water pond was tipped over, today's village square. In 1930 a new fire water pond was built. Today it is filled with sand.
The new settlement
As early as 1920 there were several buildings on Hermann-Löns-Strasse. A new residential area was created between 2006 and 2012. Located to the east of the B 8, 2 1/2 storey houses were built. Row houses were also built. Due to the high level of traffic noise, a noise barrier forms the border to the new residential area. The wall is 4.50 meters high.

Elsdorf didn't have its own church. The residents of Elsdorf celebrated the fair in Urbach, 1.3 km away. The St. Bartholomäus church there also served as a place of worship for the inhabitants of Elsdorf. There is still a procession to Corpus Christi today. Carpets of flowers and dyed sawdust lined the street with traditional costumes. The priest of Urbach carried the monstrance with the hosts over this decorated street.
